Poetic Unreason

Wiliam Nunez

On September 9th, I will embark on filming the life of Robert Graves from 1926-1940 in a film tentatively entitled Poetic Unreason. It will deal with all the major events of Robert's life during that time, and will include all the major figures of his life, including: Nancy Nicolson, Laura Riding, Geoffrey Phibbs, Beryl Pritchard, and the Jacksons.

This has been a personal journey for me as I have struggled to set the right tone for this piece. I think I have succeeded mainly due to the excellent advice I have received from William Graves, Lucia Graves, and my co-producer, Derek Kavanagh.

We will be filming in the actual locations where Robert lived and worked: World's End, Oxford, Deya, and Hammersmith, London.

Casting is progressing and a cast announcement is slated for mid-

June. I have been getting lots of advice as to who should play Robert. I have gone back and forth on various names; some famous, some on the verge of world-wide fame, but I must admit, I have yet to make up my mind. But I will soon. The actors playing these roles must be inherently true to the character's personalities. They must be able to capture their essence and transfer it to a cinematically successful story.

I believe that the film must succeed in its own right, without prior knowledge of the real lives of the characters. The audience should leave the cinema enriched, having learnt some truths about Graves and his life. I recognise that this is a daunting task, but it is one I am ready to tackle head on.
